Thanks to some of the fine product managers at Microsoft, the All Up Release 7.1 is now available for public download. It is made up of 7 RAR files, each about 700 MB:
Your links are not going to work since they have the Microsft mail OWA reference in them. You need to remove the redirect to enable them for everyone to reference. I believe there are 8 parts to the download. Microsoft Business Intelligence VPC Release 7.1 – http://denglishbi.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!CD3E77E793DF6178!832.entry
Thanks! Updated the links. I think this distro is a bit different than the one you reference – it only has 7 parts and was only released on the 27th – looks like the one you reference has been around longer.
FYI, the main difference between 7.1 and 7.0 is that the 7.1 distro is a touch smaller (contains some perf enhancements) and contains 19 click thru demos which mimic what you can show on the VPC itself. 7.1 also was released in 17-18 localized versions.
Hi, I am getting the following error message when extracting the files:
Extracting BI VPC R7.1.vhd
Extracting from BI VPC R7.1.part02.rar
Write error in the file BI VPC R7.1.vhd. Probably the disk is full
I am extracting the files onto an external USB hard drive (120gb free space). I also had the same error message when trying to extract the BI VPC version 6.
Hope you can help me out on this. I’ve been trying to get this BI VPC up and running for the past week already.
The Windows 2008 Demo (some people are calling it “R8″) is indeed on 2008. It contains the Contoso Oil & Gas demo which was demonstrated at the BI Conference in October. No decisions as far as if and when it may become available. It also isn’t a “pure” 2008 image anyway (SQL 2008, PPS SP2), so you may be slightly less interested…
No, it was never made available to the general public – pretty sure it wasn’t even released to partners, either. It probably has been retired since it also doesn’t included latest/greatest technology.
Regina, I haven’t seen this error myself. If it happens on disks on you have enough room, I’d suspect that the archives themselves are corrupt. Do they “test clean” when you use WinRAR’s “Test Archive” feature?
Regina,
Make sure the drive where you are extracting the VPC file is formatted using NTFS and not FAT32, as FAT32 can only support files upto 4GB in size whereas the VPC extract will result into a file of size around 15GB.
I used this image to create a trend analysis chart based on a scrorecard but I face each time among others the following issues :
The predicted values are not showed in red but in blue, just like the values from the past.
Each time I publish it, the values are not preserved as in designer. It defaults to All member on both axis that is to an original state thereby my chart ‘vanishes’ to a point.
When set on a dashboard, it is just a picture. No fields, or any interactivity opporunities at all.
The Analysis services property DataMing\AllowSessionMiningModels was already set to true.
In my dashboardesigner, under Options, Server tab , Connect then Server Options, I write the value for the AS instance as BI-VPC ( the same name used by Management Studio to connect to). Pressed OK, and I could see that the value was set.
I’m logged as local administrator on this VPC image.
Is it limited functionality with this VPC image or a missing service pack or a setting, or I misundestood some basic facts etc.
Any guy can let me know where and how to check the vitual machine out, I mean I can not find the guesting operating system and have no idea how to interact with it. I installed the Vitual server 2005 SP1 and latest update pack also, created vitual machine pointing to the vhd image. all status in the administration site is fine.
it is my first time working with MS vitual server/machine technology, so got confused I can not find the running vitual machine out. I used VMWARE that is so easy to get a guest application done.
After you created the image, did you start it in the VS Admin Console (the same Web UI that you created the image in to begin with?) If so, if nothing else you should see an image of your image “lighting up” in the console itself as the VM posts, the OS loads, etc…Then use the Virtual Machine Remote Client to connect.
Thanks for your response so quick. sure I started it in the WebUI and I can do any operation, turn off / save status etc. the point is, you mean I have to work with the PPS vitual machine by connecting it with the progam ‘Virtual Machine Remote Client’?
Anyway, I used the Vitual PC 2007 and I’ve got guest os running interactively with me.
Thanks a lot. but I did not see any rendme file after I extracted the 7 arch files, what I got was and is only one single “BI VPC R7.1.vhd” file. can you post the readme file on this page?
The next version of All Up, is “R8″ – It will probably be a while before it is available externally because as I understand it, one can’t time-bomb the Windows 2008 OS in the same way we did with the Win 2003 (r5-r7) images, and we obviously aren’t going to release the VPC without some sort of expiration mechanism…so the demo guys need to figure out how to address this.
Is there a way that I can access the Report Manager in BI-VPC wherein I can create and edit the “folder”,”Report Builder”,and “Datasource” or we are not permitted to access this one?
2. I got an error msg when I tried deploying my report model project from BIDS using this targetURL: http://bi-vpc/ReportServer. The error below was what I got.
“The path of the item ‘/Data Sources/Adventure Works’ is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash”
I tried using the default URL which is the http://localhost/ReportServer but I got this error “Report Server has encountered a SharePoint error” instead.
Did anyone encountered the same problem before? Your help will be appreciated.
I am trying to get this VPC up and running unsuccessfully. I am trying to figure out whether this is just a version compatability problem… not familiar with versions of VPC. The current version of VPC appears to require Windows 2007 as a host… which I am not on. I installed VPC 2007, but was unable to launch the image with this version. Before I pound my head against the ground too hard, should I be able to do this?
Paul, the image should work under Virtual PC 2007 – You say you can’t launch the image with this version: Can you be more specific? What sort of errors and/or messages are you seeing?
Thanks for your response, Russell. I was vague because I figured if the answer was that they aren’t supposed to work together, there was no sense in digging into the technical details.
It appears that I have my problem resolved. I haven’t worked with VPC’s a lot, so I wanted to make sure that it was supposed to work before I tried to resolve my problem. My confusion was between a .vhd and .vmc file. I didn’t realize that I was supposed to create a new virtual machine (.vmc) which pointed to the existing virtual hard drive…. I had assumed that the .vhd file was my virtual machine and was trying to open it directly. After I realized this, I was off and running…
I assume that I am up and running now, as I have successfully launched the VPC, although I haven’t played with it yet. Thanks for your response.

Microsoft Single Sign-On Service is working as Local System Account. I have tried to make it worked as ADVENTURE-WORKS\Administrator. I write the password pass@word1. I have seen there are other services that works wih this user like Office Sharepoint Server Search and they restart properly. When I try to start the Microsoft Single Sign-On Service it says Error 1069: The service didn’t start due to logon failure. In event viewer it says unknown user name or bad password.
I have copied this user, and the service works with the new user, but when I try when I try to configure a Single Sign-On in Sharepoint it says it doesn’t have enough rights.
I don’t know why I can log in with the user ADVENTURE-WORKS\Administrator and the password pass@word1, and it doesn’t work to start a job. If I could get it work, I think I could configure a Single Sign-On in Sharepoint properly.

Regina, your external hard drive is likely formatted as FAT32 which only allows files less than 4 GB. To get around this file size limitation, you need to reformat it to NTFS. Hi everyone,
I installed the MS BI VPC 2007 in my own machine. I have a couple of questions, I hope you can help me with this one.
1. I tried accessing the report manager in BIVPC using this http://bi-vpc/reports but they redirect me to their sharepoint site(http://bi-vpc/Reports/Pages/Default.aspx). I tried this one also http://localhost/reports but same thing they redirect me to http://bi-vpc/Reports/Pages/Default.aspx.
Is there a way that I can access the Report Manager in BI-VPC wherein I can create and edit the “folder”,”Report Builder”,and “Datasource” or we are not permitted to access this one?

ok. After finally opening this image, I came to the realization that the VPC is based on sqlserver 2005. is there a similar vpc with sqlserver 2008?
Not one available to the general public. Release 9.2 uses SQL Server 2998 R2 CTP3, but only partners have access to it right now.
Thanks Russell. I am part of a partner organization. I guess I will have to figure out how I go about accessing this. Thanks for your guidance.
