In a quick one-off post from a few months ago, I wrote about my experiences with IE9 breaking PowerPivot’s ability to generate snapshots. With the RTW of IE9 , I thought it would be smart to circle back to this problem.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it was fixed. A colleague at Microsoft was kind enough to test this, and he still sees the same problem. So, word to the wise: don’t install IE9 on the SharePoint app servers which will be doing snapshot generation.

Hi Russell,
I have got the same experience as what you said. After I installed IE9, the powerpivot gallery became a blank page instead of theater view. So I tried to reinstall the silverlight, then everything works well. I got all snapshots back.
Hope it’s helpful! Good luck
Hi Lisa!
It looks likes you ran into something different – your problem was client-side. The problem I’m describing occurs on the server. If IE9 lives on the server, PowerPivot itself can’t create new snapshots – your issue had to do with seeing/previewing existing snapshots, I guess because of a muffed Silverlight install…
Hi Russell.
In my situation, IE9 was installed on the server as part of Windows Server 2008 R2 and there’s no way to uninstall it to go back to IE 8 from what I can tell.
This has been fixed. I believe the fix is in SP1 of SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Service for SharePoint (the current release). I don’t know if there is an individual QFE for this outside of the SP. I am checking on that.
